What is the Save on Energy Instant Discounts Program and why is
the IESO making this shift?
The IESO is changing its approach to incentivize energy-efficient lighting to a midstream
approach, which focuses on distributors (the “midstream”) instead of end users (the “downstream”).
In this program, incentives are provided directly to distributors, allowing them to offer immediate
discounts on energy-efficient lighting at the point of sale to end users and other buyers. This
approach eliminates the need for contractors, consultants, or end users to complete application
paperwork, streamlining administrative processes within the program and making it easier for
customers to purchase energy efficient equipment.
